Thursday, May 21 – Class of 2020 Parade of Graduates

Bulldog Country!  We need your help with recognizing our Graduating Class of 2020.  Since the graduation ceremony had to be postponed, we thought we would celebrate with a parade.  The GES Parade of Graduates will be held on Thurssday, May 21, at 7:00.  Participants in the parade will include the graduates and their immediate family.  Please mark your calendar and join us in saluting our eighth grade students.  Get your lawn chairs ready and enjoy our Parade of Graduates.  Our graduates deserve to know that Bulldog Country stands proud of them.  Please note that we encourage all parade goers to practice social distancing.

Tuesday, May 26 from 12:00-7:00 and Wednesday, May 27 from 8:00-3:00 - Clean-Up Days

We have decided to give our students the opportunity to come back in the building one last time this school year to collect their belongings, return anything that needs to be brought back to school, and say goodbye to the teachers.  Of course, we will do so in an organized manner following social distancing guidelines, but we feel it is important to give students an opportunity for closure on this school year if that is something they want and/or need.

We are asking that each GES household sign up for one slot for Clean-Up Day.  The idea behind the slots is to limit the number of people in the building.  Our goal is to get every family in and out of the building in 20 minutes with the maximum number of families in the building being 4 at a time.  Families with more than one child are encouraged to send a parent/adult with the youngest child to assist with clean-up of the locker and/or desk and allow the older child(ren) to start the clean-up process on their own under the supervision of the classroom teacher(s).  Junior high students may come without adult supervision.  We ask them to come and go via the junior high wing door.

Things to bring with you to Clean-Up Day include:  trash bag, school library books, Germantown Public Library books, school Chromebooks, school Ipads, and anything else that needs to be returned to the school.  Report cards, yearbooks, and medication will be sent home with families along with locker and/or desk belongings.  The school will assume responsibility for cleaning the lockers and desks once all belongings have been removed, so cleaning supplies will not be needed.

For those interested, curbside pick-up may be requested.  We ask that you sign up for a time slot and email rbecker@germantownbulldogs.org with the curbside request by Wednesday, May 20.  That way we can arrange to have everything packed up and ready to go for your curbside pick-up time.

If none of the times work for you, contact Mrs. Becker at rbecker@germantownbulldogs.org or 830-5209 and other arrangements can be made.

Thursday, July 16, at 6:00 p.m. in the Gym - Awards Ceremony  **Please note this date has changed.

This year, we are combining events to create one Awards Ceremony for academics, athletics, and extra-curricular activities.  Invitations will be emailed to families of students that will be recognized.  Scenario A:  The event will be held in the gym and will consist of student recognition and presentation of awards.  Scenario B:  The event will be drive-thru style with students receiving their awards at pre-arranged times in the gym.  All plans are contingent upon the guidance we get from the Illinois State Board of Education.

Tuesday, July 21, at 7:00 - 8th Grade Graduation  **Please note this date has changed.

8th Grade Graduation will be held this evening.  The format of graduation will be decided in the weeks to come as we get more guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education.  While we are hoping for a traditional ceremony, we are preparing for a modified ceremony that allows us to follow any social distancing guidelines still in place.

Thursday, July 23, from 11:00-6:00 - Student Registration

PreK-8 Student Registration will be held today.  We are still unsure if it will be held in person on on-line.  Stay tuned for more information.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration packets were delivered this week.  We ask that parents complete the forms provided and submit the required information at their earliest convenience.  Office hours through May 27 are 8:00-5:00 p.m.  Summer office hours will begin on May 28, and they are 8:00-4:00 p.m.  If these hours do not work for you, just let me know, and we will make other arrangements.

Preschool Screenings

We are still waiting for guidance from the Kaskaskia Special Education District on the status of preschool screenings.  We will update families as information is shared with us.  We are planning to offer a morning and afternoon program again next school year.

COVID-19 Information

  • For the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, the school will be closed due to a state mandated shutdown.  All events scheduled during this timeframe have been canceled.  Families will be notified as events are rescheduled.

  • On Friday, March 27, the Illinois State Board of Education announced that remote learning will occur for the duration of the suspension of in-person instruction.  Districts must develop instructional remote learning to allow for student engagement and continuity of instruction.  School districts will not be expected to extend their school year calendar.  All Act of God days, remote planning days, and remote learning days will count as actual days of pupil attendance.  We will not have to add days to the school calendar, so May 27 will be the last day of the 2019-20 school year.
