The 5th & 6th grade Team Quest members placed 2nd out of 34 at Team Quest Regionals held in Mt. Vernon on February 28, 2008.
The creative/engineering activity was the building of a boat
that would travel the farthest on the floor when blown by a box
fan. They built a flat bottom boat decorated with 'Germantown' and
bulldog paws and a big purple sail. It worked because their boat
went the farthest, passing everyone up by
1 ½ feet!
The engineering activity was constructing a boat that could hold a plastic egg, travel down a slide and into a tub of water. The boat had to stay afloat, and the egg had to stay in the boat. Again, the team was successful as their boat met all the qualifications!
The creative activity was the making of a pair of hip-waders, complete with the feet in them. They didn't just have to make them, someone had to wear them. The team completed a green hat, tackle box, and fishing pole for their fashionable waders.
Other activities for the day included math, trivia, and listening to several water themed songs and answering questions about the songs.
By placing 12th, the team qualifies for the finals which will be held in Chester, Illinois on May 2 & 3.
The 3rd & 4th grade placed 6th out of 28 teams at Team Quest Regionals held in Mt. Vernon on February 29, 2008.
The creative/engineering activity was the building of a boat that could float, and hold miniature pirate statues. When the second pirate stepped into the boat, his boots started getting wet, so their boat only held one pirate, but they scored well for their creativity.
The engineering activity was constructing a 'waterbucket'- that
could hold a weight, not water. The team chose to go for the
maximum points of 50, and succeeded. Their bucket was of sound
construction with "Germantown Bulldogs"
written on it, as well as other various designs.
The creative activity was the making of a swimmers outfit that had to have goggles, swim flippers, swim shorts, and an item of their choosing, which they chose arm floaties. The team used a sports theme to decorate their gear with and Zach was the lucky model to show off the ensemble.
Other activities for the day included math, trivia, and listening to several water themed songs and answering questions about the songs.
By placing 6th, the team qualifies for the finals which will be held in Chester, Illinois on April 26.
The 7th and 8th grade Team Quest members placed 12th out of 31 at Team Quest Regionals held in Mt. Vernon on February 27, 2008.
The creative/engineering activity was the building of a water tower that reflected their town they were from. The team constructed a round water tower that had GERMANTOWN in big letters along with some blue waves coming up from the bottom.
The engineering activity was constructing a water slide that wouldn't leak water and that a little toy-power ranger or cat, could float down and land in the pool.
The creative activity was the building of an entrance to a water
slide park.
The team named theirs 'Devils Drop' and included beware signs,
trash cans, a place to put your sliding mat and a big ugly monster
above the door.
Other activities for the day included math, trivia, and listening to several water themed songs and answering questions about the songs.
By placing 12th, the team qualifies for the finals which will be held in Chester, Illinois on April 22 and 23.
