7th & 8th Grade Team Quest Receives 2nd Place

February 21, 2008

Germantown Elementary 7th & 8th grade Team Quest participants won 2nd place at the Adventures in Learning Team Quest held Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Calumet Street Christian Church in Centralia.

‘The Great American Melting Pot’ was this year’s theme and all the activities were centered around ones culture or heritage.

One activity the students participated in was trivia questions that corresponded to a deck of cards that had famous people on them. Sometimes, they were asked to think of that person’s last name, then determine their heritage.

Another activity they participated in was to create a ‘pizza oven’ that could hold 6 pizzas. To test the oven, they had to make cardboard pizzas, complete with red construction paper sauce, and foam shapes for the toppings, within 60 seconds, and get them into the oven. The oven this team built held 4 pizzas and they did them all within the time limit.

The creative activity for the day was to build a storefront out of a cardboard box and various other supplies like construction paper, colored cotton balls and crayons. They were to choose someone off the cards to model their store after-this team chose the great Mathematician Albert Einstein. They called their store ‘Einstein’s Essentials’ and carried signs that said ‘50% off to all straight A students’ and ‘Mathematics and more-textbooks galore.’

Other activities included listening to music and determining its origin, and a math worksheet.

The 7th & 8th grade team will head to Mt. Vernon on Wednesday, February 27 to participate in the Team Quest Regionals. The theme for that activity is ‘Water World’.
