Team Quest takes First Place

February 21, 2008

Germantown Elementary 5th & 6th grade Team Quest participants won 1st place at the Adventures in Learning Team Quest held Monday, February 13, 2008 at Calumet Street Christian Church in Centralia.

‘The Great American Melting Pot’ was this year’s theme and all the activities were centered around ones culture or heritage.

One activity the students participated in was trivia questions that corresponded to a deck of cards that had famous people on them. Sometimes, they were asked to think of that person’s last name, then determine their heritage.

Another activity they participated in was to build supports for a stacking wedding cake, which included putting a huge flower in between layers. The team was able to use all the levels of the cake and their bases held up very well.

The creative activity for the day was to build a monument to welcome new visitors to America. They couldn’t just build a Statue of Liberty; they had to think of something new to welcome people. The team created an Eagle on a round paper plate base surrounded by a flag, park bench, and water fountain.

Other activities included listening to music and determining its origin, and a math worksheet.

The 5th & 6th grade team will head to Mt. Vernon on Thursday, February 28 to participate in the Team Quest Regionals. The theme for that activity is ‘Water World’.
